When Oxygen becomes a commodity!

Today, 5 June 2026, World Environment Day marked its 54th celebration across the globe with the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.

The day, as always, reflected a familiar rhythm—social media filled with photographs of students holding saplings, communities organizing small plantation programs, and local groups engaging in brief sanitation and awareness programs.

Young students standing proudly with a single sapling in their hands, planting it in college premises or community spaces, cameras ready to capture the moment. These gestures, though symbolic, have now become a ritual of environmental celebration. I can also remember me myself posting my picture in social media carrying a sapling in my hand saying 'Happy Environment Day'

Today, My Friend Dilip Mahatara Shared a postcard with me. That postcard he has clearly raised concern on degrading environment which cant be solved through small acts like Limiting Environment day to poster preparation, small plantation program which is neglected later and so on. Lets See what has he written,

And Here is my Reply,
In a nutshell, the message of this Environment Day goes far beyond celebration, it calls for responsibility. Nature has always sustained life silently, providing oxygen, water, food, and balance without asking for anything in return. But today, that silent support is under pressure due to deforestation, pollution, climate change, and human negligence. While global efforts like SDGs, COP agreements, and reforestation projects offer hope, they must move from promises to stronger, consistent action. As a well-wisher of the environment, I believe the future still holds promise if we act collectively, beyond symbolism and short-term activities. Protecting forests, oceans, and biodiversity is not an option but a necessity for survival. Let us remember that saving nature is ultimately saving ourselves, and every small responsible action today shapes a safer, greener, and more balanced tomorrow.
